On the southeastern tip of Virgin Gorda, visitors will find the Copper Mine. Since the granite southern coast of Virgin Gorda was similar to that of Cornwall, where copper mining was a lucrative industry, the British speculated that there was copper here as well. From 1838-1867, Cornish miners worked the Copper Mine. An easy taxi ride from Spanish Town, today the remains of the chimney, boiler house, cistern and mine shafts stand guard against an azure sea. One gloomy Saturday morning when we were about leaving Ultrawinds Resort in Baungon, Bukidnon after an official event, I tried to invite my lady boss Ma’am Venus and other colleagues Laurence and Marife to take a sidetrip to the island. The misty weather would be good for beach bumming so I convinced them.

An island can actually disrupt the flow of this working triangle, causing more issues in preparation, cooking, and cleanup. It is important to have placement so there is not a dead zone in the kitchen, or an area of countertop that goes unused due to the placement of the island.

The rarest antelope species in Africa, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) estimates that there are between 300 and 600 Ader’s duiker remaining in the wild. In 2005 five of these antelope were introduced to &Beyond Mnemba Island , the ideal location for a breeding project due to having no natural predators and a good supply of food. Between 2005 and 2013, the duiker have tripled their number, with a population of 15 now living on the island.
